Brighton Hove Albion Aim To Overturn Deficit Against Roma In Europa League

Brighton Hove Albion aim to overturn deficit against Roma in Europa League

Seagulls have it all to do in Rome

Visitors head to the Stadio Olimpico with four-goal deficit

Brighton Hove Albion will be aiming to overturn a four-goal deficit when they head to the Stadio Olimpico to face AS Roma in the second leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 tie on Thursday night.

The Seagulls were comprehensively beaten 4-0 in the first leg at the Amex Stadium last week, with Andrea Belotti scoring a brace for Roma and Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham also finding the net.

Brighton will need to produce a remarkable performance in Rome if they are to progress to the quarter-finals, but they will be confident of causing the Giallorossi problems, especially away form.

Jose Mourinho's side have lost three of their last four home matches in all competitions, including a 2-0 defeat to RB Salzburg in the first leg of their Europa League play-off tie in February.

Brighton, meanwhile, have won three of their last four away matches in all competitions, including a 1-0 victory at Arsenal in the Premier League last weekend.

The Seagulls will be without the suspended Adam Lallana for the trip to Rome, but they should otherwise have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Roma, meanwhile, will be without the injured Georginio Wijnaldum, but they are otherwise fully fit.

Despite the four-goal deficit, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is confident that his team can overturn the deficit.

"We have to believe," said De Zerbi. "We have to play with courage and determination. We know it will be difficult, but we are capable of winning in Rome."

Roma manager Jose Mourinho is expecting a tough match.

"Brighton are a good team," said Mourinho. "They are well-organised and they have some very good players. We will need to be at our best to win the match."

The match will kick off at 8pm UK time on Thursday night.
