Calgary Water Main Break Impacts City

Calgarians Urged to Reduce Water Consumption

No Timeline for Repair of Catastrophic Break

A catastrophic water main break in northwest Calgary has severely impacted the city's water supply. The break has affected the most critical south feeder main, which supplies water to 12 million Calgarians and nearby municipalities. As a result, the city is urging residents to be prepared to reduce their water use both indoors and outdoors over the next 24 hours.

Under normal circumstances, water main breaks are repaired and water is restored within 48 hours. However, the severity of this break has made it difficult to estimate a timeline for repair. Crews are currently working to fix the damage, but there is no information on when water service will be restored.

The city is prioritizing repairs based on factors such as the risk to public safety and the impact on critical infrastructure. In the meantime, residents are being asked to conserve water whenever possible and to avoid any non-essential water use, such as watering lawns or washing cars.
