Chicago Residents Wake Up to Severe Storm Damage

Multiple Tornadoes Touch Down in the Area

At Least Three Homes Damaged

CHICAGO, Ill. - Residents of Chicago are waking up to severe storm damage after a series of tornadoes touched down in the area late on Wednesday. At least five tornadoes have been reported, including an EF-1 tornado that caused significant damage to homes and businesses in Elwood and Channahon, Ill., about 35 to 40 miles southwest of Chicago.

The National Weather Service confirmed that a tornado touched down in Elwood at approximately 9:45 p.m. The tornado was on the ground for about 20 minutes and traveled a path of about 5 miles. It caused major damage to several homes and businesses, including a strip mall that was completely destroyed.

Another tornado was confirmed to have touched down in Channahon at approximately 10:15 p.m. This tornado was also on the ground for about 20 minutes and traveled a path of about 3 miles. It caused damage to several homes and businesses, but no injuries were reported.

In addition to the tornadoes, the storms also produced high winds and heavy rain. The winds caused damage to trees and power lines, and the rain caused flooding in some areas. The Chicago office of the National Weather Service said its staff had to briefly seek shelter from a tornado.

The storms are part of a larger system that has been moving across the Midwest. The system is expected to continue to produce severe weather in the Chicago area for the next few days.
