WASHINGTON, July 22, 2024 (Reuters) - Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle will appear before the House Oversight Committee on Monday, July 24, to testify about the agency's role during the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
The appearance marks the first time Cheatle has testified before lawmakers since taking over as director in April 2022. The committee is investigating the agency's actions leading up to, during, and after the riot, which resulted in the deaths of five people.
According to NBC News, the state police informed the Secret Service of their concerns at 5:53 p.m. on January 5, 2021, about potential threats of violence at the Capitol the following day.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. EDT in Room 2154 of the Rayburn House Office Building. Live coverage will be available on C-SPAN and other news networks.
